For patients

You report it. We take it from there.

If a complication occurs after an aesthetic procedure, you report the case through your customer account. You need the medical report and, if you already have one, a cost estimate for the follow-up treatment — documents can be added later. Since 2007 we have handled thousands of complications, 12,742 of them in recent years alone — and paid in 12,370 of those.

Process

What happens if something goes wrong

Three steps, no hidden stages in between and no week of silence. If anything is unclear, just call — we will walk through it with you.

1

Get your documents ready

You need the medical report on the complication and, if you already have one, a cost estimate for the follow-up treatment. Anything missing can follow later — report the case early rather than complete.

Missing documents may be added later

2

Report it in your customer account

You receive a single-use access link by email — no password required. In your account you fill in the form under “Report a claim” and upload the documents. This route is deliberate: medical reports and photos are health data and do not belong in an unencrypted email.

3

We assess and pay

We clarify what is medically necessary and come back to you. Once approved, we settle directly with the treating practice wherever possible, so you do not have to pay anything yourself.

95% of cases decided within 24 hours

Stuck with the form, or a question in between? Call us. Our service centre will go through the case with you — the report itself still runs through the customer account, because that is where your documents are protected and immediately linked to your case.

Cover

What is covered — and what is not

Follow-up cost insurance covers the cost that arises when something has to be treated after a planned procedure — impaired wound healing, infection, secondary bleeding, capsular fibrosis (hardening around an implant), seroma (a build-up of fluid) or scarring that needs treatment. Cover differs by brand and tariff; the policy conditions are always what counts.

Just as important is what is not covered: a result you do not like is not a complication. What is paid for are treatments that are medically necessary — and, depending on the tariff, aesthetic corrections as well. What applies in your case we will tell you on the phone — before you sign, not after.

Counted honestly

And what about the cases you don’t pay?

They exist. Of 12,742 complications reported, we paid in 12,370 — that is 97.1 per cent. We list the rest here as well, because a ratio without the other side is not a ratio, it is advertising.

Two reasons lie behind almost every declined case. First, pre-existing conditions: complaints that were already there before the cover started — a drooping eyelid that existed beforehand, for example. Second, dissatisfaction with the result: if the look you wanted was not achieved but there is no medically demonstrable, unexpected complication, it is not an insured event. Both can be clarified beforehand, and that is exactly what our service centre is for. Call before you take out cover, not after.

Awarded

Test winner 2023 and 2026 — and here is who says so

An independent firm of actuaries worked through the follow-up cost policies available on the market. Not the advertising, but the terms: what is included, what is excluded, what you have to carry yourself. beautyprotect came out as test winner in 2023 and again in 2026.

The result

  • beautyprotect VIP 4.4 out of 5
  • beautyprotect PRO 4.0 out of 5
  • medassure beauty 3.1 out of 5
  • safe4beauty 2.7 out of 5

Independent expert comparison by Gehling Consulting, insurance mathematicians (actuaries). It is based on the general insurance conditions as of July 2025 and the accompanying customer information. Data as of June 2026, published in July 2026, last updated on 27 July 2026.

quadmed AG commissioned the comparison. That is stated on the comparison site itself — we think saying so is more honest than leaving it out. The assessment was made by the actuaries alone, on the basis of terms anyone can read.

Frequent questions

What patients ask us on the phone

Does reporting it cost me anything?

Nothing. Handling is part of your policy. You pay nothing for reporting it, for the assessment or for the settlement with the practice.

How does beautyprotect compare with other providers?

beautyprotect was named test winner in 2023 and 2026 in the independent expert comparison by Gehling Consulting, a firm of insurance mathematicians. The assessment covered the policy terms, not the advertising: beautyprotect VIP scored 4.4 out of 5, medassure beauty 3.1 and safe4beauty 2.7. quadmed commissioned the comparison; that is stated there too, and the terms are available for anyone to read.

Can I send my documents by email?

Please don't. Medical reports and photos are health data, and ordinary email is unencrypted. Use the customer account — there your documents are protected and immediately linked to your case. For questions we are always available by phone.

Which documents do you need from me?

The medical report on the complication and, if you already have one, a cost estimate for the follow-up treatment. If something is missing, report the case anyway — documents can be added at any time.

Do I have to pay for the treatment myself first?

Usually not. If the treating practice takes part, we settle directly with them. If that is not possible, you get the money back from us as soon as you send us the invoice.

Can I still take out cover after the operation?

For procedures already carried out this is possible under certain conditions. Whether it works in your case depends on the procedure and the timing — we can clarify that in a few minutes by phone.

Who is quadmed, and who pays in the end?

quadmed AG designs the products and brokers them as an independent insurance broker. Which insurance company carries the risk in a given case depends on the product and tariff and is stated in your policy documents. What you see on the outside is the beautyprotect brand.

Is my practice listed with you?

4,592 practices and clinics across Europe work with us. You can check whether yours is among them in the doctor search on beautyprotect.com, or ask the service centre.
